Social Media Announcement
The 52nd National Show and Trial will be hosted by the German Shepherd Dog League of NSW in May 2026. An event of this magnitude requires an extraordinary commitment of time and effort from volunteers, and it is inevitable that differing opinions will arise during the planning process.
Recently, disagreement within the fraternity; initially surrounding photography arrangements and subsequently other matters, has escalated into an unacceptable display of criticism and commentary on a post within the GSD Discussion Group. Regrettably, the fallout from this has resulted in Matt Morris resigning from his position as President of the GSDL of NSW.
It has come to our attention that Matt has been subjected directly to serious and wholly unwarranted personal attacks, from cowardly unknown sources. No individual, particularly one serving in a voluntary capacity, should ever be exposed to such behaviour.
This serves as a timely reminder to all members that the GSDCA Communication Code of Conduct always applies. In addition, member clubs, state kennel controls, and social media platforms all have policies that must be respected. Administrators of Facebook pages and forums carry a responsibility to be vigilant and to act promptly where conduct breaches stated rules.
This situation highlights, once again, that complex issues cannot be resolved in public forums. Such platforms often inflame tensions, encourage those with personal grievances to engage as “keyboard warriors,” and significantly increase the risk of personal harm to individuals, committees, and ultimately the breed.
On behalf of the Member Club Presidents and the Executive, I wish to express our sincere regret that Matt Morris has been subjected to such appalling personal attacks. We thank him for his dedication and the substantial groundwork he has laid toward delivering a successful National event in the coming months.
I am confident that the GSDL National Show and Trial committee will deliver a great National for us all to enjoy.
It is my hope that we can all learn something from this situation and, as a consequence adjust our attitudes and actions using social media as a positive force in the future.
GSDCA President
Sean Lynch
