Professor Dr. Heinrich Meßler was born in Cologne/ Germany on February 24, 1950. He lives in the town of Mönchengladbach with his family and is married to Dr. Ulrike Meßler. The couple has three sons aged 38, 36, and 29, as well as two granddaughters. It goes without saying that a German Shepherd named Berry belongs to the family, too, who was born Uccas von Aducht at Professor Meßler’s very own kennel.
After having finished his university studies in Frankfort, Cologne and in Düsseldorf where he earned a medical degree he continued his education in Cologne, Bonn, Switzerland and the United States. For 25 years Professor Meßler was the head physician at the “Neuwerk” Clinic for Orthopedics in Mönchengladbach. Even though he is now retired he is still available part time as a senior consultant so that the clinic has a chance to further benefit from his expertise. He also qualified as a professor in the field of orthopedic surgery and teaches at the medical faculty of the University of Bonn.
Professor Meßler joined the German Shepherd Association – Verein für Deutsche Schäferhunde (SV) e.V. – on October 01 in 1968. On January 12, 2001 he was elected the breed health coordinator at the local breed club in Mönchengladbach and still holds that office. Also, he did some successful breeding work himself in the past. His kennel “von Aducht” was founded in 1973. He celebrated his biggest successes with his dog “Argus von Aducht” who was well known by that time. His male dog “Mack von Aducht” was rated “excellent” (VA) and even won the youth class competition. In 2002 he won the fifth prize at breeder’s class level on the occasion of the Bundessieger Conformation Show.
His second great passion – apart from the German Shepherd Dog – is the sport of fly-fishing. He makes his own flies and has enjoyed fishing on almost every major river of this world and the seven seas.
From 1987 to 1991 he was the breed health coordinator of the local breed club in Köln-Gremberg (Cologne). From 1991 to 1999 Professor Meßler was chairman of the local breed club of Cologne. In his own local breed club in Mönchengladbach he still holds the office of the breed health coordinator.
On May 29, 2015 he was elected President of the Verein für Deutsche Schäferhunde (SV) e.V. with headquarters in Augsburg by the delegates
