 The National Breed Commission Executive would like to thank all the exhibitors for making their animals available for the Sires Progeny Group at the 2005 Main Breed Exhibition. . As the 33^rd National Show and Trial was only held in June some of the comments have not altered significantly.

 It was pleasing however to see two groups presented for the first time from a recently imported male and a young sire for the information of the exhibitors present at the show.  Unfortunately some Sires were unable to achieve the required number for presentation to the National Breed Commission Executive, which was unfortunate.

 At the National Breed Commission Meeting in July concerns were raised in regards to the Sires Progeny Class and the inclusion of sires that are no longer part of the breeding program, for various reasons, e.g. Iwan Lechtal. It was felt that after a point in time, their input was no longer relevant and that they should be excused from this class. The National Breed Commission Executive did feel that the point of time has come for the group of Iwan Lechtal as it has declined in numbers and permission was given for the group to be excused.  Our comments are well documented as to the significant influence and contribution to the breed in this country of Iwan Lechtal. Five progeny exhibited at the Show as follows;-OD Ex 8, OB ES 1, ES3, Ex 3 and VG 2.

 Since 2001 the Sires Progeny report has been extended to included placings of the Show, the results in the GSDCA Breed Improvement Schemes and the National Breed Commission Executive believe that the provision of a more detailed report has been well accepted by the breeders and provides a more complete picture for the breeders to consider when making a decision for selection of a suitable Sire in their breeding program.

 The past two years has seen a number of imports arrive in Australia from various bloodlines and therefore one could say that this has seen a mixture of type and the advice for a selection of a breeding partner has become less predictable with the resultant progeny.  It is important for all breeders to research the pedigree to ensure the consolidation type and blending of bloodlines.

 One of the major concerns noted in the Sire Progeny Class as well as a number of the classes throughout the weekend is the short underchest. It is an area that is evident through all of the major bloodlines not only in Australia but also overseas and should be given major consideration in any future breeding program.  The National Breed Commission Executive are also a little disappointed to note at this show and at recent Shows an increase in the number of medium and in some cases light eyes. Care should be exercised in this area when selecting a breeding partner in the future.

 Aimsway Abacus has once again presented a group of very high quality, and very good uniformity. The animals are of very good type and very good overall construction. There is clear distinction between the sexes and are of the correct size. High withers, firm backs with well moulded croups which ideally could be just a fraction longer. The forequarter angulation is good to very good, very good hindquarter angulation with well developed thighs. Very good forechest development however in some animals ideally the lower chest should be a fraction longer. The view from front is not quite correct. The group impresses with their enthusiasm and joy in running displaying very good expansive ground covering gait. As stated previously the influence of Dorsten Monte Cito bloodline in evident in the progeny and there is evidence that this sire has blended well with the lines of Iwan Lechtal. Of particular note is the depth of quality within the group and over the weekend the progeny enjoyed a very high degree of success with a number of high placings throughout the classes. The National Breed Commission Executive have been very impressed with the development of this group over the past eighteen months which has seen Aimsway Abacus being awarded the Sieger title at the 2005 Main Breed Exhibition. In addition one son was also awarded the grading of Excellent Select and his best daughter was Excellent Select 2 as well as being the Gold Medal winner from the 2005 National His proven ability to dictate and cement type, as well as his excellent results in the GSDCA Breed Improvement Schemes has meant that this sire will have a very strong influence over the breed in Australia. As a number of his sons and daughters enter into our breeding program of kennels throughout Australia the National Breed Commission Executive will watch with interest the continuation of this bloodline.  This is a group presented by the VA3 dog from the 2003 MBE and it is very pleasing tosee a group of very good quality. .Of disappointment is the fact that this dog has yet to produce a quality son that may take his place in the future however the quality of the females that have been presented at this Show and previously are of a very high quality.
 The group is well above medium size to large, of very good type with high withers, firm backs and well moulded croup which should be slightly longer. Very good proportions, length of foreleg and toplines The upper arm ideally should be slightly longer and slightly better angled, very good hindquarter angulation. The group exhibits good colour, with very good pigmentation. The eye colour is a little mixed. The lower chest should be slightly longer. In movement the group exhibits very good ground covering movement with a willingness to run. As a son of the 2001 MBE Sieger Troy Noriswand and his mother Astasia Xcess a daughter of Excellent Select Alk Domenica he has a very well constructed and valuable pedigree which has seen a cementing of type and overall construction. A daughter was awarded Excellent Select 4 combined with small but very good hip and elbow results will consolidate this bloodline in the future breeding programs of kennels throughout Australia. The quality of the group and his performance in the Open Dog Class ensured his high placing and elevation to the 2005 MBE Vice Sieger.  This is the second time this sire has presented a group at a National or Main Breed Exhibition. It should be noted that the first time was at the 2005 National Show and Trial which was only two months ago so the comments made by the National Breed Commission Executive remain the same as the group is small and very young and yet to reach its final development.. The group overall shows very good colour and pigmentation and very good strength. Ideally the withers could be carried slightly higher, with a slight restriction in the length and the lay of the croup. Very good forechest development. Slightly short underchest. Very good fore and hindquarter angulation. In movement shows very good ground coverage however at times the withers ideally should be carried slightly during movement. A young group and the NBC Executive look forward in seeing this group develop in the future.

 This is the first time this sire has presented a group at a National or Main Breed Exhibition. The group is very young and yet to reach its final development. .There is a clear distinction between the sexes, but ideally the heads should be slightly stronger in foreface and the eye colour was medium to light. Size is medium to large, of very good proportions, the croups are slightly short and slightly steep. Slightly short underchest. Good to very good forequarter and very good hindquarter angulations. In movement show very good ground cover very good back transmission and very good wither placement. We look forward to this group expanding. A young group and the NBC Executive look forward in seeing this group develop in the future.

 Dengarun Browned Off was awarded the 2003 MBE Sieger title and is starting to reach the twilight of his very successful show career. The group presented is small in numbers compared to previous years but still of a very high quality.
The NBC Executive has commented previously that the strength and continuation of the bloodline is in the high quality of his daughters which the NBC Executive feels will have a strong influence in future breeding programs. It is disappointing that the sire has not produced a direct son to carry on this bloodline.
The females are medium to above medium size of very good uniformity and correct dark eye colour.  The group shows very good proportions with very good toplines. Slightly short but well moulded croup. In some cases the masking should be more defined. Colour and pigmentation are good whereby in some animals the black saddles marking should be more defined.  Good to very good forequarter angulation. Very good to slightly deep hindquarter angulation Good firmness of hock joints and elbows. Good fore and slightly short underchest. During movement the group exhibited a very good willingness to work with dynamic movement and displayed much enthusiasm and endeavour.
A majority of his bitches are medium to above medium size which will prove invaluable their future breeding program and consolidate the influence of Iwan Lechtal, QuincitoAwol and Vasall Kirschental in his pedigree. In addition a daughter was awarded Excellent Select 5 and Excellent 1 in the Open Bitch class at the 2005 MBE. It is envisaged that in the near future we will see the end of Denargun Browned Off presenting a group to a National or MBE however this does not underestimate the influence that his daughters will have in the future direction of the breed. A very pleasing group and congratulations to the owners of breeders of this sire.

This sire was awarded an Excellent Select 6 at the 2003 MBE. It is pleasing to see a group presented at the 2005 Main Breed Exhibition some two years later. There is clear distinction between the sexes of above medium size to large. High withers, firm back, well moulded croups which ideally should be a fraction longer. Slightly short under chests. The group shows correct sequence of steps with good firmness of joints. Balance fore and hindquarter angulations. During movement shows very good ground cover with balanced forehand reach and hindquarter drive. Care should be exercised in the regards of colour and pigmentation especially in regards to nose colour. The National Breed Commission Executive have stated in the past the ability of this Sire to present a group of very good type, uniformity and very good construction. This is a sire that can add stability and predictability to a breeding program by cementing type via his sons and daughters. It was also pleasing to see two of his sons placed highly in the Open Dog Class and look forward to these sons continuing the bloodline into the future. A very pleasing group and congratulations to the breeders and owners of this sire.

The upper arm could still be a littler longer and better angled, very good angulation. Slightly short underchest. During movement the group shows balanced reach and drive. The hock joints and elbow are yet to reach final firmness.
It is very pleasing to see this sire present a group and we look forward to seeing the group expand in the future.

 BREEDERS GROUP
 The National Breed Commission Executive again acknowledges the Breeders Groups that were presented at the 2005 Main Breed Exhibition in Melbourne. It was very pleasing to see three groups presented on the day. The National Breed Commission Executive appreciate how difficult it is to present a breeders group and it is pleasing to note that over the past few years we have seen a steady increase of kennels presenting groups at Nationals and Main Breed Exhibitions. The groups presented were from kennels registered in New South Wales and Queensland. All of the groups presented displayed a high degree of difficulty and we acknowledge the commitment that the breeders have made to the breed, the GSDCA Breed Improvement Schemes and indeed the support of this very prestigious event at this show. The National Breed Commission Executive would like to highlight that within all of three groups there were animals that were awarded the highest grading of Excellent Select at this event. This indeed added to the overall quality of the groups presented and we would like to congratulate all of the breeders on their success.

 1st. - Aimsway Kennels – New South Wales

 A group of five animals - 2 males and 3 females from 3 sires and 4 dams.
 This group overall was of above medium size to large very well constructed, animals of very good type and uniformity. There is very clear distinction between the sexes, with very good well constructed heads, very good expression and very good eye colour. The animals display very good toplines where the croups are well moulded however ideally could be just a fraction longer. The forequarter angulation is good to very good. Very good hindquarter angulation with very good breadth of thighs. Very good bone strength. During movement the animals display very good ground covering movement with very good back transmission and overall good firmness of joints. All of the animals in the group display much enthusiasm and joy in running.
 This kennel has regularly supported this class at Nationals and Main Breed Exhibitions and the National Breed Commission Executive congratulates the breeders for presenting such a group of very high quality and uniformity at the 2005 Main Breed Exhibition. A very pleasing group of high quality.

 2nd. - Astasia Kennels – Queensland

 A group of five animals - 1 male and 4 females from 3 sires and 5 dams.
 This group overall was above medium size to large very well constructed animals of very good type and uniformity.  There was clear distinction between the sexes with the bitches showing very good femininity with good heads and very good expression. The eye colour was medium to dark. The animals display very good toplines where the croup ideally should be a little longer and better angled. Good to very good forequarter angulation. Very good hindquarter angulation. Of particular mention is the very good overall firmness of joints. During movement the group displayed very good ground cover with balanced forehand reach and hindquarter drive.
 This kennel has supported this class on numerous occasions and has always presented a group of very high quality and uniformity and this group was no exception.
 In addition the kennel is situated in Queensland and the National Breed Commission Executive congratulates the breeders for presenting such a group and in addition winning the “Sammy” trophy at the 2005 Main Breed Exhibition. A very pleasing group of high quality.

 3rd. - Bhuachaille Kennels – New South Wales

 2 males and 4 females from 4 sires and 3 dams.
 This is the first time that the kennel has presented a group at a Main Breed Exhibition. The kennel is a smaller kennel from Sydney and therefore has a limited number of bitches within its breeding program. The National Breed Commission Executive congratulates the breeders for presenting a group of very good quality.
 The group overall were of above medium size of very good type and construction. The uniformity was not as evident as the previous groups however it should be noted that some of the animals presented were still quite young and not yet reached their final development, therefore this should be taken into account.
 Good fore and very good hindquarter angulation. Very good heads and expression with very good eye colour. Slight restrictions in the length and lay of the croup. The older animals in the group show correct sequence of steps. During movement show very good ground coverage with very good back transmission and show much enthusiasm in running.
 The National Breed Commission congratulate the breeders for presenting a group of very good quality and look forward in assessing future groups presented by this kennel. A very pleasing group.
