Golden Jubilee Edition - “A Condensed
History of the German Shepherd Dog in Australia” :
Progress Report No 1
Update and progress report on the proposed Golden Jubilee Edition, an update
and revision of the 1990 publication, “A Condensed History of the German
Shepherd Dog in Australia”
The
Golden Jubilee Edition is due to be published late
2010, to celebrate the GSDCA’s 50th birthday and the ambitious project is
proceeding on schedule. The emphasis of the publication will be on the
Council’s first 50 years, but will also include reprinting approximately sixty
to seventy (60 -70%) of the original publication.
To assist the
financing of the publication, a National Raffle is planned for March 2009 to
June 2009, with the raffle being drawn at the National Show in Queensland, on
June 12, 13 & 14, 2009. All clubs have promised to fully support this
fundraising effort with their members, who in last year’s survey in the
Quarterly National Review, indicated their overwhelming support. All required
regulations have been met and permits have been obtained.
Terrific
efforts by President, Bruce Knight and Sharon Thorp (President GSDCQ) have
secured full sponsorship for the raffle. Well done !
The excellent
prizes offered are:
1st
Prize – Air travel and accommodation to the value of $6,000 (if travel to the
Sieger Show 2 VIP passes to the show are included).
2nd Prize – Air travel within Australia to the value of $1,000.
3rd Prize – Liberty Hair Dryer valued at $480.
4th Prize – 1 limited edition leather bound copy of the Golden
Jubilee Edition “A Condensed History of the German Shepherd Dog in Australia”,
valued at $150.
Book Buyer’s
Draw – Every person who buys a book of 5 tickets will be entitled to entry
into a separate draw to win one (1) limited edition leather bound copy of the
Golden Jubilee Edition “A Condensed History of the German Shepherd Dog in
Australia”
Ticket Sellers
Prize – The winning ticket seller will be entitled to entry into a separate
draw to win one (1) limited edition leather bound copy of the Golden Jubilee
Edition “A Condensed History of the German Shepherd Dog in Australia”
Discussions and
negotiations with printers are currently proceeding and we are hopeful of a
very favourable result in terms of cost, in the not too distant future. When
the printing situation is finalized, we will then be in a position to advise
of the purchase price of additional soft cover copies, as well as the planned
limited edition deluxe leather bound edition.
In this regard,
it is expected that Order Forms will be initially published in the June or
September 2009 Quarterly National Review for club members to order additional
copies.
All clubs have
been requested to provide written material and photographs of personalities,
dogs and events unique to their club, by December 31, 2008. Similarly, a
number of people have been requested to write articles with an initial draft
to be provided by December 31, 2008.
During 2009 I
will be reviewing and refining these articles and assembling the book. So, you
can see a huge task awaits the Editorial team !
Best Wishes
James Rodger, - Editor – GSDCA Golden Jubilee Edition
