The German Shepherd Dog Council of Australia (Inc) was founded on the 13th April 1960.  It is directly affiliated with the Australian National Kennel Council (ANKC) and comprises all the German Shepherd Dog clubs and associations in the states and territories of Australia (see Affiliate Clubs below).

The GSDCA celebrated its 50th Year Anniversary in 2010 and a commemorative medallion was struck for each member (which was distributed to members via the GSDCA's quarterly magazine). - see memento (at right).  Also in celebration of its 50th Year anniversary the GSDCA published its history in the Golden Jubilee Edition of the Condensed History of Australia (see Publications).

affiliation fees and voting strength of each constituent body

The voting strength of each member Club shall be related to its financial membership as to the date of its last financial year. The GSDCA Treasurer shall forward to each affiliated Club a declaration of membership form and calculation of voting strength. The formula to establish the number of votes to which the member Clubs are entitled to :

Up to 50 membership unit = 1 vote
51-100 membership unit = 2 votes
101-200 membership unit = 3 votes
201-300 membership unit = 4 votes
301-400 membership unit = 5 votes
401-600 membership unit = 6 votes
601-800 membership unit = 7 votes
801-1000 membership unit = 8 votes.
1001-1200 membership unit = 9 votes
1201-1500 membership unit = 10 votes
1501-1800 membership unit = 11 votes
1801-2100 membership unit = 12 votes.


To calculate the membership units the following criteria is used :

Single membership = one unit
Double membership = two units
Family membership = two units
Junior membership = nil

The Affiliation Fees are set at the Annual General Meeting of the German Shepherd Dog Council of Australia and are payable to the Treasurer by the 31st December. The annual fee is $132.00 per vote (GST included).

2 Year Lapse Rule :

Any motions passed at any AGM are not to be changed or altered and re-presented for a period of two years, as from after the 1998 AGM.

 

Green button MEETING EXPENSES & REIMBURSEMENT OF ACCOMMODATION FOR GSDCA EXECUTIVE MEMBERS & REGISTRARS

The German Shepherd Dog Council shall pay the meeting room expenses in relation to all Meetings hosted on behalf of the German Shepherd Dog Council of Australia. New Executive members and position holders shall not receive airfare or accommodation reimbursements at the AGM at which they are elected, the subsidy to apply from the first meeting in their term of office.

The Registrars or position holders of the National Breed Commission are expected to attend the National Breed Commission Meeting and the expenses are to be born by the German Shepherd Dog Council of Australia. The Registrars or position holders will only receive payment to attend the Annual General meeting if they are requested to attend the AGM by the Executive to deal with any problems within their portfolio. The Registrars and position holders will be afforded the equivalent accommodation subsidy that applies to the Executive.

At the Annual General Meeting of the German Shepherd Dog Council of Australia it shall on an annual basis with the advice of the Treasurer set the amount to be allocated for accommodation and meals for the officers that attend designated meetings of the GSDCA. The Secretary advised it was the Public Service allowance has been used in the past and this is the allowance to be considered in the future.

GSDCA Service Awards (Recognition of Member's Service)

The GSDCA Executive may in its own right and by a majority decision award Service Medallions each year to worthy receipents who have contributed greatly to the GSDCA. Member Clubs may nominate up to two members per year for the Service award.

The presentation of the Service Medallion will be made at an event conducted by the GSDCA Inc.

The criteria to be applied by the member Club is that each nominee must have shown and continue to show dedication to the advancement of the German Shepherd Dog. The member Club shall provide the Secretary with a detailed history of the nominees’ involvement at local and/or national level.

The award will not be automatic. The GSDCA Executive decision will be by a majority vote and is final. Upon rejection of the nomination by the GSDCA Executive the member Club may resubmit the nomination after one year.

GSDCA Development Milestones:

The German Shepherd Dog Council of Australia (Inc) had its inaugural meeting on the 13th April 1960 in Sydney.
Milestones and significant dates in terms of Council progress over the years are :

1960 - GSDCA commenced with Roy Brabham as President on the 13th April.
1963 - Logo developed as black silhouetted GSD with an outline of Australia as a background.
1964 - National Review Magazine was first published by Roy Brabham as its Editor.
1964 - 1st Patron selected was Judge Norman F Mitchell.
1965 - Press Cutting Service commenced to combat adverse media publicity.
1965 - Incorporated on 9th July.
1967 - 1st National Show and Obedience Trial on 19th March in Sydney, NSW (Judge: P Hutter).
1967 - Specialist Judges List instigated.
1967 - Adoption of the German Standard was first sought from ANKC.
1967 - Standard GSD Pedigree Forms.
1967 - Code of Ethics started to be developed.
1968 - National Review Magazine production lapsed.
1973 - Initial trial for lifting of National GSD Importation Ban.
1973 - 2nd Patron selected was Rt Hon Donald L Chipp MP.
1974 - Permanent lifting of the National GSD Importation Ban.
1974 - New dogs became available for breeding subsequent to the Importation Ban being lifted.
1974 - National Review Magazine (half foolscap format) was reinstigated with Walter H Reimann as Editor.
1976 - Start of a new era of GSD development with Louis C Donald as President.
1976 - WA GSD Breeding Ban lifted by WA State Parliament on 24th December.
1977 - Breed Survey Scheme adopted Australia wide.
1978 - Breed Survey Year Book first published.
1979 - Tattoo Scheme introduced.
1982 - Hip Dysplasia Scheme introduced.
1982 - New editor of National Review Magazine was James W H Rodger.
1983 - Judges Sub-Committee introduced.
1983 - Obedience Sub-Committee introduced.
1985 - 20th and last edition of the National Review Magazine in the half foolscap format.
1986 - New format for the Quarterly National Review Magazine (A4 format) with James Rodger as Editor.
1986 - Tooth Certificate Scheme introduced.
1987 - Haemophilia Certificate Scheme introduced.
1987 - ANKC Affiliation - Recognition of Breed National Councils introduced.
1987 - 1st Main Breed Exhibition with Sieger Edlenblut Orkan and Siegerin Landrina Majic Melody.
1988 - Year of consolidation of GSDCA Schemes.
1990 - Publication of Condensed History of Australia
1993 - Elbow Dysplasia Scheme introduced
1996 - GSDCA Canine Service Awards introduced
2002 - Alterations to Haemophilia Scheme to cover only imported males, sons of imported males and dogs from frozen semen
2002 - GSDCA Website commenced and maintained by John Fenner till 2010
2010 - Golden Jubilee (50 years) of GSDCA - commemoration medal supplied to members
2010 - Publication of Golden Jubilee Edition of the Condensed History of the German Shepherd Dog in Australia
